Energy & Utility Skills Approved as ‘Recogniser of Training’ for IGEM/IG/1
Energy & Utility Skills has been approved as a ‘Recogniser of Training’ by IGEM.
From October 2017, the gas industry’s Standards Setting Body (SSB) must recognise training programmes for all new gas workers working under the scope of the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations. IGEM (Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers) has been appointed by the Standards Setting Body (SSB) to provide governance for all downstream gas work training and assessment.
What are the IGEM/IG/1 Standards of Training in Gas Work?
The IGEM/IG/1 ‘Standards of Training in Gas Work’ provide this governance – developed by a Working Group consisting of representatives from the gas industry’s Strategic Management Board (SMB) and the Standards Consultation Forum (SCF). They set out the criteria for gas work training programmes and assessment as well as ensuring a consistent and robust approach for all routes to Gas Safe registration.
Training programmes and assessments must be submitted to IGEM (or their appointed ‘Recognisers of Training’) for recognition and once recognised are then subject to ongoing external quality assurance monitoring.
