NCO (Gas) – Mains Layer
Overview
EUSR registration is based on the completion of one of the following qualifications or apprenticeships for Main Layer:
- EUIAS Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas)
- City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas)
- City & Guilds Level 2 Gas Network Operations
- City & Guilds Level 3 Gas Network Operations (Craft)
- City & Guilds Level 3 Gas Network Engineering
- City & Guilds Level 3 Public Utilities Distribution
- City & Guilds Level 3 Distribution Craftsmen
- Gas Network Team Leader (GNTL) Level 2 Apprenticeship, (Team Leader Mains Laying)
- Gas Network Operative (GNO) Level 2 Apprenticeship
Evidence Requirements
The following evidence requirements apply from 2 January 2025.
EUIAS Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations
For Main Layer up to 180mm (Self-Lay & Distribution): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
For Main Layer 180mm up to 355mm (Self-Lay & Distribution): The evidence above for up to 180mm, plus the following 2 units:
- Joint materials by butt fusion processes between 180mm and 355mm for utilities network construction
- Install gas engineering products or assets above 180mm, up to and including 355mm
For Mains Layer 400mm and above (Self-Lay & Distribution): The evidence above for up to 180mm, and 180mm up to 355mm, plus the following unit:
- Install gas engineering products or assets above 355mm
City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas)
For Main Layer up to 180mm (Self-Lay): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
For Main Layer up to 180mm (Distribution): The evidence above for up to 180mm (Self-Lay), plus the following 2 units:
- Install equipment for safe working on the highway for utilities network construction
- Conduct specified connections to gas network mains and commissioning
For Mains Layer 180mm up to 355mm: The evidence above for up to 180mm, plus the following 2 units:
- Join materials by butt fusion processes on utilities network construction, above 180mm diameter or
- Joint materials by fusion processes on utilities network construction, above 180mm diameter
and
- Install gas engineering products or assets above 180mm or
- Install gas engineering products or assets above 180mm, up to and including 355mm
Mains Layer 400mm and above
The evidence above for up to 180mm, and 180mm up to 355mm, plus the following unit:
- Install gas engineering products or assets above 355mm
City & Guilds Level 2 Gas Network Operations
For Main Layer up to 180mm and 180 up to 355mm (Self-Lay): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
Including the following unit:
- Prepare resources and segregate the area for site works during gas network operations (Mainlaying)
For Main Layer up to 180mm, and 180 up to 355mm (Distribution): A colour photo or scanned image of the original certificate(s).
Including the following unit:
- Prepare resources and segregate the area for highways works during gas network operations (Mainlaying)
City & Guilds Level 3 Gas Network Operations (Craft)
For Main Layer up to 180mm and 180 up to 355mm (Self-Lay): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
Including the following unit:
- Prepare resources and segregate the area for site works in diverse situations
For Main Layer up to 180mm, and 180 up to 355mm (Distribution): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
Including the following unit:
- Prepare resources and segregate the area for highways works in diverse situations
City & Guilds Level 3 Gas Network Engineering
For Main Layer up to 180mm (Self-Lay): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
City & Guilds Level 3 Public Utilities Distribution
For Main Layer up to 180mm (Self-Lay): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
City & Guilds Level 3 Distribution Craftsmen
For Main Layer up to 180mm (Self-Lay): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
IFATE Gas Network Team Leader Level 2 Apprenticeship
For Main Layer up to 180mm, and 180mm up to 355mm (Distribution): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
IFATE Gas Network Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship
For Main Layer up to 180mm (Distribution): A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s).
Pre-requisite Requirements
All individuals must hold a valid EUSR registration for SHEA Gas.
Registration Period
Registration on EUSR as a Main Layer is valid for a period of 5 years and is renewable.
CSCS Card
Individuals will be issued a Blue CSCS Skilled Worker card with the NCO (Gas) Main Layer categories shown above, on the reverse.
