EUSR Hosts First Approved Training Provider Conference

On Wednesday 28 October we proudly hosted our first Approved Training Provider Conference which brought together many of our approved training providers from around the country for a day packed with updates and practical strategies to support their business growth.

Rachel Thomas, Managing Director of Energy & Environment Awards, opened the day by introducing the newly rebranded organisation, formerly known as EUIAS, and explaining the rationale behind the change.

She also spoke about the wider Energy & Utility Skills Group, the parent company of both Energy & Environment Awards and EUSR, and the vital role all three organisations will play in addressing the sector’s ongoing skills shortages.

Throughout her speech, Rachel referenced the Skills Strategy 2025 – 2030, a robust framework built around four strategic pillars: Research, Attract, Develop, and Retain. These pillars outline a clear and actionable path forward for the energy and utilities sector.

Key Updates on CSCS Cards

Fergus Kaye, Head of EUSR, delivered a timely update on the CSCS Green Labourer Card and EUSR’s collaborative work with key industry stakeholders to ensure individuals hold the correct card for their role on site.

Fergus outlined how EUSR is working closely with employers to support proper card allocation – ensuring that labourers hold the CSCS Labourer Card, while those undertaking skilled roles, such as gas and water mains and service laying, are issued the appropriate CSCS Skilled Worker, Trainee, Supervisor, or Manager cards.

Social Media for Business Growth

The mid-morning session shifted focus to marketing strategies, with Vicki Cook, Digital Marketing Executive at Energy & Environment Awards, leading a session on ways training providers can optimise marketing for their business. Vicki shared insights from the marketing activities she has used for EUSR, with practical ideas that providers can apply to boost visibility and engagement straight away.

This was followed by a pre-recorded presentation from Jonathan Storey AIOSH, Owner and Director of Four Storey Training, who shared actionable tips on building a strong LinkedIn presence, understanding your audience, and promoting EUSR training effectively.

Endorsed Training Programmes

After a networking lunch, the spotlight turned to Endorsed Training Programmes (ETPs). Chris Gearren, Director of Groundforce Training, shared how ETPs have added real value to his organisation and enhanced customer confidence. Bhupindra Sard, Head of Quality at EUSR, then walked attendees through the endorsement process, offering clarity and guidance for providers looking to expand their offerings.

Qualifications and Collaborative Success

To close the day, David Morgan introduced the regulated qualification offering now available through Energy & Environment Awards. The final session featured a compelling case study from Steve Sharp of 3t Training, showcasing the collaborative development of the Level 3 Certificate in Substation Fitter Construction Operations – a powerful example of what can be achieved when the sector works together toward a shared goal.

Looking Ahead

The EUSR Approved Training Provider Conference marks a significant step in strengthening our provider network and driving forward excellence in training. We’re excited to continue building on this momentum and supporting our providers with the tools, knowledge, and recognition they deserve.
