EUSR launches new HVDC Awareness Scheme

Future-Proofing the Power Sector

HVDC and Its Growing Importance

As the UK accelerates its transition to net zero, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology is playing a critical role in the electricity transmission landscape.

To meet net zero targets by 2050, the UK is undertaking the largest overhaul of its electricity grid in a generation – and HVDC technology is key to enabling this transition.

To support this transformation, EUSR has launched the HVDC Awareness scheme – a scheme designed for professionals who interact with HVDC assets.

Rather than focusing on the engineering of HVDC systems, the scheme provides essential awareness for those overseeing, planning, or supporting HVDC-related work.

It ensures that individuals across the power sector are equipped with the knowledge

on how HVDC systems integrate with the grid and facilitate renewable energy integration.

Developed in Collaboration with Industry

The HVDC Awareness scheme was developed through extensive consultation with employers across the UK power sector.

It is a direct output of the Transmission and Distribution Network Group, convened by Energy & Utility Skills to identify and address emerging skills needs in the industry.

By working closely with stakeholders, the scheme reflects real-world requirements and supports workforce readiness for the evolving energy infrastructure.

Why Work with EUSR?

Our schemes are developed in partnership with industry and undergo rigorous quality assurance to ensure they meet employer needs and support a safe, skilled workforce.

We oversee the approval and ongoing monitoring of all training providers and trainers delivering our programmes, ensuring consistency and reliability across the sector.

Our online register is accessible 24/7, allowing employers to verify an individual’s training record instantly. Upon completion of training, individuals receive a virtual EUSR card – a secure, digital record of their training that can be presented when accessing sites or projects.

Our dedicated support team provides responsive, personalised assistance to employers and individuals, ensuring smooth registration and reliable guidance throughout the process.
