What is the Network Construction Operations (Gas) Escape, Locate & Repair (ELR) scheme?

EUSR registration for Escape, Locate & Repair (ELR) category is dependent upon the individual completing one of the following qualifications for Service or Main Layer under the ‘Distribution’ pathway, or apprenticeship: 

  • Energy & Environment Awards Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas) 
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas) 
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Gas Network Operations 
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Gas Network Operations (Craft) 
  • Gas Network Team Leader (GNTL) Level 2 Apprenticeship, (Team Leader Mains Laying) 
  • Gas Network Operative (GNO) Level 2 Apprenticeship 

(Note: Registration of ELR category is not available to those who have completed the Self-Lay pathway or those being re-registered for the Self-Lay pathway). 

Evidence Requirements

Energy & Environment Awards Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas)   

A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s). 

To register on EUSR for the Escape, Locate & Repair (ELR) category, an individual must have completed the Energy & Environment Awards qualification for Service/Mains Layer (Distribution) along with the following 4 units: 

  • Conduct specified testing of gas networks associated with leakage location 
  • Minimise risks to life, property, and the environment during gas escapes 
  • Analyse and interpret the results of surveys to determine the location of gas escapes 
  • Restore gas network components to operational condition  

City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas)  

A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s). 

To register on EUSR for the Escape, Locate & Repair (ELR) category, an individual must have completed the City & Guilds qualification for Service/Mains Layer (Distribution) along with the following 4 units: 

  • Restore gas network components to operational condition by repair 
  • Conduct specified testing of gas networks associated with leakage location 
  • Minimise risks to life, property, and the environment during gas escapes 
  • Analyse and interpret the results of surveys to determine the location of gas escapes 

City & Guilds Level 2 Gas Network Operations  

A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s). 

To register on EUSR for the Escape, Locate & Repair (ELR) category, an individual must have completed the City & Guilds qualification for Service/Mains Layer (Distribution) along with the following 2 units: 

  • Restore gas network components to operational condition by repair 
  • Conduct specified testing of gas networks associated with leakage location 

City & Guilds Level 3 Gas Network Operations (Craft) 

A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s). 

To register on EUSR for the Escape, Locate & Repair (ELR) category, an individual must have completed the City & Guilds qualification for Service/Mains Layer (Distribution) along with the following 1 unit: 

  • Restore gas network components to operational condition by repair 

IFATE Gas Network Team Leader Level 2 Apprenticeship 

A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s). 

IFATE Gas Network Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship  

A colour photo or colour scanned image of the original certificate(s). 

Pre-requisites

All individuals must also hold a valid EUSR registration for SHEA Gas.

Registration Period 

Registration on EUSR for Escape, Locate & Repair (ELR) is valid for a period of 5 years and is renewable. 

CSCS Card 

Individuals will be issued a Blue CSCS Skilled Worker card with NCO (Gas) Escape, Locate & Repair on the reverse.
